Neutral A Bad Thing?
When I got my civic I bought it standard and I had to teach myself how to drive it... It's going well but when I want to slow the car down I simply shift it into neutral and press on the brakes... Is this hurting the car?

Practice make perfect,
and maybe you can try to apply gradual pressure on brake more eariler.
The gearbox construction of a auto car is diff from manual one, it need trans oil for lub, and shift to N gear means the oil is pump away. Hence while still in rotation, the gear box rotate in low gear oil level condition, hence increase the gearbox wear and tear.

Just don't shift pre-maturally. Watch your RPM gage and shift down when it gets to around 1000RPM and it shouldn't jerk or just barely.. when you let go of the clutch while shifting down a, apply pressure on the gas pedal to keep you from dropping speed too quickly which causes the jerks.
