New guy with some questions.
Howdy. My name is Matt and I'm 19 from Michigan. I just recently purchased a 1989 Honda Civic LX for a winter car as I have to put the summer car up for the winter.
I paid $600 for her. she has 152000 miles, ps, pw, pl, 5sp, a nice interior and a moderate amount of rust (after all it's Michigan) Drives extremely wheel except for the fact the pass upper control arm nut is missing, but I've got some time to fix her up. The raidator could be replaced, but I haven't had any heating issues during the 30 minutes I drove it today.
I have a couple of questions. For michigan weather what grade oil do you guys recommend? Also since I got no owners manual how many quarts does a 1.5L take of oil?
Finally are there any common problems that I should be on the lookout for that might hinder driveability, Like Common oil leak spots, and such.
Thanks guys..
Matt

RE: New guy with some questions.
i think its a hair over 4 QTs, for winter use 10-30, summer maybe 10-40, unless you get some small oil leaks, then go up to 20-50 till you find the problem. as for leaks, tighten the oil pan nuts. for some reason, they always seem to loosen up on hondas. maybe even throw on a new gasket for like 15 bucks. and if it ever dies on you, first thing to check is the distributor, its hondas achilles(sp?) heel, but its not that bad. if yours is original, it will go soon, but youll probably only replace it once.
