Civics, being the highly expected economy car, have been designed to operate at a colder temp in this mannor because this allows gas conservation. Their cooling systems are well above what is needed stock. If you watch some N/A civic run drag, some will actually tape off portions of the radiator to keep it hotter. The theory behind that is the disipation of heat gets the block to temp then, once achieved, the energy becomes more efficiently used at energy.

well, it makes sense... on a 100 degree day, on a trip to indiana (from ohio) about 250 miles....my civic wouldnt even get to half....it tends to stay at like 1/4 ish... but i doubt that N/A DRAG RACERS tape off their radiator to keep their engines warm... honda's might have excellent cooling systems... but not that good.

That is just where thermostat kicks in. OP was telling that his car is cooler than usual on cold days, it's kinda different thing...
