Nitrous Bottle
if im not mistaken "NOS" and "laughing gas", as found in medicinal purposes, are two different gases....i thought there were some cases this year of kids trying to huff "NOS" and dying, partially because of the coolantt aspect to it...
I used to go out with a girl whos father was a dentist and they had a bottle of nitrous (laughing gas) at home. She had a party and we all got wild from it. I think that "nos" for a car is the same gas. In dentristry, they only give you a small shot of it, that's why you don't notice any "cooling" effect, where in a car, you give your engine a much larger shot at once, then you notice that the lines and stuff get cold.
N2O, or Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a weak anaesthetic gas that has been in use since the late 18th century. Common use includes both surgical and recreational purposes. Most people have experienced nitrous in the context of dentistry. Nitrous oxide chargers are also used to make whipped cream. The dairy industry uses nitrous as a mixing and foaming agent as it is non-flammable, bacteriostatic (stops bacteria from growing) and leaves no taste or odour. Nitrous is sometimes used in auto racing to speed engines. Nitrous is even used in diving to prepare divers for nitrous-like effects.

the nitrous you buy for your car has about 100 PPM of sulphur in it so that it smells like rotten eggs. that is to keep people from huffing it, and to alert you to a leak. if it were to leak and not have a tell-tale smell (its naturally odorless) then you very well could put yourself to sleep if you had a leak in your car.
"laughing gas" and nitrious for your car to different gases. If you inhale enough nitrious for your car by trying to get high off it you will just freeze your lungs and die. Never even getting high at that.
If anyone would like to experiment, then I have a 10lb bottle of nitrious here at my house, if someone would like to come suck it down and see how hard they laugh afterwards or just how hard they end up hitting my garage floor then be my guest.

no. the only difference is the sulpher. its N2O. thats the chemical makeup of it. its not a different substance. now im not entirely sure that the medical isnt kept under less pressure, which would make it come out at a higher temp, but the gas itself is the same.
exactly. if it leaked in your car, it wouldnt frreeze everything instantly. it would freeze a bunch of stuff close to it, but its not the N2O thats actually freezing stuff, its the fact that its expanding really fast. thats a thermo-dynamic basic. if you take a compressed gas, and release it into a larger container (or into the atmosphere, which is basically a HUGE container) the temperature will drop. thats how an air conditioner works. so once its released, if it has time to gain a little of its temperature back, then you could breathe it in enough to put you to sleep. so say the bottle in your trunk started leaking, it would freeze the hell out of your trunk, but the N2o would warm a lot by the time it got to your nose/mouth, and if it didnt have that sulphur in it, you wouldnt notice that you were slipping under. but the chemical N2O itself is the same as the medical stuff. though its like oxygen in that there are different quality grades, like you wouldnt take the tank of oxygen off of your cutting torch and breathe that in. its not the same quality as medical grade, though the gas itself is the same.
