Default Question about turbo kit...

I have a 04 civic lx and am getting a turbo specialties turbo kit for it (http://www.procivic.com/pages-produc...505/index.html). The kit comes with an internal westgate attached to the turbo and it will be set to 6 psi. My question is can i keep the turbo and just put in a external westgate and take off the internal westgate or do i have to get a whole new turbo with an external westgate?

and also the installation off the kit will cause me to lose my cat converter and i was wondering if it would fail smog tests. i was thinking of putting in a cat converter a little further down and setting it up, but only if its necceasry to pass the test.

what kinda turbo is it? if its an internaly gated turbo then it should be welded closed and even then its at risk or cracking,

if you want to convert i'de suggest getting a standard turbo housing and run an external gate. it'd be the easiest way to do it. but if you want to convert it your goin to need a manifold also with a place to mount the external gate

+1 for just buying a turbo without the gate, and you can always get an electronic boost controller to up the boost on the internally gated one.

And if you still need to pass emissions just buy a universal cat and have it welded somewhere in your exhaust midpipe, you should be all set. And if you are worried about it being restrictive, get a Magnaflow or Randomtech, i know both of those both still pass emissions but give you a few hp (if you're lucky)
