Turbo
Well i was doing a repo and droping it off at the dealership and my friend owns a shop there and i was with my repo partner rudy, the guy who owns the shop is bestfriends with my repo partner rudy they had a civic called "The pumpkin" it was a orange coupe they used to build turbo civics back in the day, and i was talking to them about turbo kits and they were telling me they are waste of money due to boost restrictions and yada yada, so they recommened i go get a turbo off a volvo at junkyard a innercooler, the mani and fuel injectors and throw em on my b16a2 and do all the plumbing myself. point being to this point do turbo kits really have restrictions on what you can do with em????im listening to john due to the fact he still has a turbo civic running 10's and a 850 horse 72 comero, and a nice buick grand national
i dont see the restrictions really.....i mean techinally it is just a 4 cylinder, but that doesnt matter. Look at guys running 300-400 hp on built and boosted 4 cylinders, even SOHC's. I'd say restrictions being how much abuse the engine can take, and that is only restricted by how built the engine is. Idk, i think if oyu wanted to really research and put together a solid kit you wouldnt be disappointed.
Depends what turbo kit you get and for how much. I got myself an used edelbrock kit for around 1,200 and at stock boost I have around 160whp but the gt28r turbo that comes with my kit can easily produce high 200's whp, probably even low 300's with a good tuned without having to change anything except my blocks internals.
If I had taken the piece your own turbo route, it would of cost me about the same price that i got my kit for and the parts would of have probably look like crap[&:]. Anyways, if you really want to get the best bang for your buck, buy an used brand kit or custom kit!!! ... also it saves you a lot of headaches.... unless you like headaches ... but does headaches sure make you learn!!
