Turbo on a d16y8. Worth it?
Well, As most of you know I'm looking to turbo my car.
Only concern is, as I learn more it's getting more and more expensive.
As far as I understand if I turbo'd my car right now I'd only be able to run about 4psi because my fuel pump and pressure regulator can't handle it. I also may need bigger fuel injectors. This is turning out to be pretty expensive and if I didn't get all those new/bigger things I'd be only gaining about 30hp. So why do that when I can do a bunch of little things that are less expensive for the same gain?
Am I right about the fuel pump and what not or am I just being psycho?
I want the most for my money, that's pretty much what's going on here.

Its totally worth it. Say you buy a custom turbo kit for 1,000 DSM injectors for 75 and a resistor box for 25. Thats 1100. Get a good tune and your engine can handle 200whp. That would be like 85more WHP. A good tune might cost you 500 bucks, but it is worth it because it makes your engine run 110% properly.
Boosting a y8 is soooo ****ing worth it, but it's by no means a cheap/easy task. I would try and give yourself 2 grand to play with. You most likely will not use all of that (especially if you consult us experienced guys before buying parts to make sure you're getting a good deal). But, having that extra "Cash cusion" is crucial because you WILL run into unexpected expenses...nature of the beast.
Also, find someone who is familiar with tuning the y8, because the timing can get quite tricky. Best solution is to swap the head with a z6, but, that's more money right there. Pay to play

A stock fuel pump can handle moderate boost, but most are tired and need replacing anyway, soit's a good ideajust to upgrade. They are only ~100 bucks. The stock fpr is fine for meow.
What's your budget? I doubt you wanna go ghetto like I did, but it can be done.
