turbo problem
i just got my car back from the shop yesterday w/ the turbo installed. when i drive it, coolant shoots out of the radiator resevoir. the temp is a little higher than before the turbo. but even when i drove it out of boost, it still boiled the coolant over. i had my ac components removed but i dont think that should affect cooling. does anyone know what could be going on?
didnt the shop that installed it say anything? If not then they are giving you some bad service. You probably need a new thermostat. Yours isnt broke, just that the temp. is set too high. With my supercharger (turbo is the same because it runs hotter) I had to get a lower temp thermostat. Check up on that. not too pricey... like $20 maybe?
if you use a low temp. thermo, you need to use a low temp fan switch as well. the thermo wont do you any good without a matching fan switch, it will open up @ about 160* instead of 180*, but then the fan kicks on at 180*, so it wont get any lower than 180* under hard use. get a 160* fan switch.
ahh crap... i got so distracted talkin about thermos and fan switchs, that i didnt think it through. get a new radiator cap. might as well go with a high pressure one(Greddy). the one you have is probably not pulling the coolant back into the radiator when it cools, so as it heats up again, it keeps filling the resevoir and overflows it. ive had this problem before and thats how i fixed it.
i have filled up the resevoir and radiator a couple of times before driving it. the temp has been steady and no coolant loss. i guess there were just bubbles in the system. hopefully it stays steady. thanks for the help
