Default wastegate question

hey guys, i have a Turbonetics Evolution 38mm deltagate wastegate. my question is the second flange that is open on the side. i'm thinking about closing it off because everytime i let off on the gas, it pops for some reason. ive read that the only function of it is to dump pressure out into the atmosphere instead of running through the exhaust like other wastegates do, thus decreasing backpressure. people often run pipes from them down, but they're still considered to be really loud and that's not what im looking for. would it be worth it to get like a closed flange piece to bolt on over it?

thanks guys

Dude, if you close that off, how are you going to vent the pressure???? Your valve will open, and the exhaust wont go anywhere=more boost than your looking for or want to deal with.

I think he's saying it has 2 openings... one to flow out extra exhaust and one that ... basically does essentially nothing but make an annoying sound?

As long as the wastegate is venting exhaust correctly and will continue to do so after you have closed off the valve, go ahead.

if the one is connecting to your turbo mani and the other opening vents dont close it ...just think of the pressure

What wastegate design is this? 1 opening to connect to manifold, 1 opening to vent pressure into atmosphere or back into exhaust, and 1 opening for.....what, the hell of it?? I dont think so

Holy **** I just reread it.

DO NOT CLOSE OFF THAT VALVE!!!!!!!

Helping backpressure? No!!! It's keeping your turbo from overboosting!!!!!
