Default 17" vs 18" wheels?

I just bought a 2006 civic and want to put some wheels on it but can't decide what size. I want 17 or 18 inch wheels and I do not plan on lowering it at all. I have read all kinds of stuff on different websites and I am confused. I don't want a big gap from wheel to fender either. Someone said if I put 18's on I will have a gap if I don't lower it. 17's are cheaper so I don't know.

the trick is getting the wheel and tire size as close to stock as possible so using the rite low pro tire is the only option. if you go to big you will also throw off your speedometer and loose power also make the ride quality suffer.
