brake pads

Default brake pads

hey everyone.
i know this is a real noob question lol, but whats the best way to tell if my brake pads needs replacing? latly they have been squeakking quite a lot especially wen first driving. ive got a eg9 if that makes any difference.

if the friction material is thin (a couple mm) then you need new pads. most likely the pads are semi metallic which could be your noise. or it could be a pad wear indicator. when you check pad thickness, check ALL of the pads. sometimes the inner pads wear faster than the outers.

Take off the wheel. Look at the caliper, there is a little hole in the middle of the caliper that will allow you to look at the pads w/o removing the caliper. If it looks like there is little friction material it is time for new pads.
