Clicking when turning

i really do not know much about suspension, so what is the "boot" and how much more would it cost to replace the axle instead of replacing the cv joint?
ORIGINAL: mxs
it's best/easiest/safest to just change the whole axle. If you catch it when the boot tears you can replace the boot. But once it starts to make noise the joint is shot.
I just did one on my Legacy, the axle was $59. And when I say I did it, I mean my friend did it, and it took him under an hour.

it's not really suspension, it's drivetrain

the joint IS part of the axle. You can't replace the joint without replacing the axle. The boot covers the joint and holds the grease in. See this picture of the one I destroyed. Subaru part, but the Honda one should be similar inside.
the way it works is you buy a new axle for like $60 plus a $50 "core fee" --- then you return your busted axle later and they give your 50 bucks back. Then the shop sends it out to have the joints rebuilt, repacked, and resealed. Then they get sold again.
