Coilovers on stock struts

Coilovers on stock struts
Hey my friend bought some new coilovers that hefoung onebay and they dont fit his car, so i have an 02 civic 4door lx and i was wondering if i could keep my stock struts and only lower my car about .5-1 inch and not have them blow out on me or have an amazingly ****ty ride. Thanks
