Default Confused about wheels

I have been looking at some nicer wheels for my 04 coupe and I was wanting to get the same size maybe a bit bigger (basically i want to replace the plastic covers with something nicer). I'm confused about if I were to get bigger wheels would the tires i have now fit on the bigger wheels? Also if i get the same size wheel do they just fit the tires i have now to the wheels i would buy or no? I'm just trying to find out more about cars in general and since this is one of the best places i thought i would start here. Thanks in advance.

When you say bigger, I assume diameter. So if you get bigger wheels, you need bigger tires, same size wheel, same tire. Discounttire.com and tire rack have a lot of info and tutorials

I'm guessing when you say "fit" you mean mount the tires onto the wheel and have them balanced, if so then yes, any tire shop can do that

Check out www.jlbmotorsports.com
They have a huge selection of wheels at good prices. One of the biggest mistakes people make when buying wheels is that they don't pay attention to the weight of the wheel. If you have wheel covers, then your wheels are stamped steel - very heavy. The lighter the wheel, the better the ride, the faster the acceleration, and the shorter the braking distance.

As a general rule of thumb, 15-inch wheels should be no more than 15 lbs, 16-inch, not more than 16 lbs, and 17s, not more than 18 lbs. There aren't many really high-performance 15 inch tires, so I would recommend 16-inch. The more you "upsize", the lower the tire's profile (shorter sidewall) and the faster the steering response. The ride will be harsher as well, so I don't recommend going smaller than a 45 aspect ratio. Remember, the overall diameter of your tires should stay the same with larger diameter wheels. This is why the height of rubber around the wheel gets smaller as the wheel size gets larger in diameter.

The Tirerack does have lots of information about this but their wheel selection is a bit limited. Many 16-inch wheels on their site are more than 20 lbs each. That's too heavy.
