wheel balance weights q

wheel balance weights q
i had my new rims balanced lately and the tire shop put balance weights on it, of course. now aside from the adhesive backing that these weights already have, they covered the entire set with clear packaging tape for added security.
now after some time, these tapes tend to lift off and leave the unstuck part dangling in the wind. i am considering replacing the tapes as they are unsightly, but are these really necessary? i mean they look ugly and i'm sure after some time, these new tapes will lift off just the same. do these weights really have a tendency to fly off say, at high speed? i am thinking the centrifugal force of the spinning wheel would further plant them on to the rims. just my analogy.
