Default will they fit?

a friend of mine took his black 16 inch rims with tires off his corolla, and is going to sell them to me for a good price. Now i have no idea how to figure out if they will fit on my 97' Civic DX. Here are the dimensions:

Rims: 16 inch
Tires: 205/40R/16

Can you help me out and explain to me how i figure out what tires will fit? I currently have 15in stock rims on my car if that helps.

that tire size is ok (not perfect but close enough)

depends on the bolt patterns and offset

If they are 4 bolt then they are 4x100. same as the civic, the only thing you would have to find out if the offset of the wheel

They should fit, so long as the offset isn't something crazy... I don't think it would be. Also, just as a side note, your speedo will be off by 4.5%, so when it says you're going 60, you're actually going 62.7mph
