2001 Civic no gears
Hello all, searched on the forum but could not locate anything about this issue (or did not know what terms to search for). Anyway I have a 2001 Civic EX automatic that has been running fine for the year that I have had it and I got it from someone who was good about all scheduled maintenance. So I'm driving the other day (to get a Haynes manual for it remarkably) and after leaving the parts store drove about two miles and it acted like it went in to neutral. No noises no bumping of lurching just no gear anymore. Coasted into a parking lot, turned it off and checked for visual or audible clues - nothing found. Started it up and put it in gear and there they were, reverse, forward, and lowers. Felt and sounded perfectly normal. Thought maybe a fluke so headed out. 30-45 seconds later repeat. Coasted into another parking lot. Same process, same result. Put in gear, feels and sounds normal, but 30-45 seconds later like it's in neutral. Can even drive it for the 30 to 45 seconds. Turn off for 1-2 minutes (not long enough to cool anything I wouldn't think) and it repeats and has not degraded any further. Checked fluid, full and pink even added a some in case something weird made it read full, still no different. Hauled it home and looked all over on line. Saw a few post on other sites similar to my issue. Suggestions from swap the whole thing to internal filter/strainer is clogging with crud so do repeated flush. But no one ever responded on any of the posts as to what if anything the issue turned out to be or what (suggestion/action) corrected it. It sure does act just like a blocked filter screen that clears when turned off and crud settles, on any other car that actually has a filter (which this really doesn't, not an externally serviceable one anyway). Hoping a repeated flush would clear up an issue like that but again no one has described any action or outcome. I'm in a not real repair friendly situation (apartment) so I hesitate to even do the multiple flush fill without an idea it might be a solution. So I am asking that anyone who has experienced this please post as to what your issue was and what was your solution. Thanks to all.
