Default Diff between 5 gears vs 6 gears

hey guys..been reading up on the forum and hearing from friends that having a 6th gear is better. i'm curious as to why? is there really a big difference excluding the fun factor? i'm thinking 6th gear would give the car more power when it hits 60 or 70...well actually i know that the vtec kicks in at about 6k rpm on the 07 si so there's ur power but i'm confusedddddd.

Your gearing wont be so tall, will also save a bit of gas if you are an easy driver, haha.

The Honda engines with 6 speed trannies are usually better than the 5 speed tranny engines.

The thing is you can have more aggressive gears but keep the same driveability because you have the extra gear. Sixth is the overdrive instead of fifth. This also helps with engines with not alot of torque because the higher gear ratio makes up for it. I'm sure somebody can make a coherent thought out of what I just said.

It depends on how the tranny is geared, what engine it's mated to,and what type of car it's in. If the top gear is a similar ratio to the 5spd in the same car line with the same engine, it usually means that the lowest gear is a grannylow or the tranny gears are closer together in ratio.

If the 1st gear is similar to the 5spd 1st, it usually allows the top gear to be like a super-OD. This is good to have in cars that can otherwise over-rev in a normal 5th OD before they hit top speed.
