Default auto to manual switch

hi everyone, i sorta inherited the family civic (1997 LX sedan) and have been driving it for a coupla months... love that sound, but its automatic. hmm..
going off to college soon, wont be able to take the car with me, but will be working and saving up money.

how much would it cost to get the switch done? would it be 4 or 5 gears? (since my automatic only has 4) and is it even possible??
thnx

It's a very common thing to do. A little search will give you all your answers.

it's possible...my mechanic quoted $500 for labor if anyone is interested...that is if you already have all the bits and pieces to copmplete this swap

its kinda hard to quote the price, cuz it depends on what car you have ...
transmission: $100 - $275 ( depending on mileage, unless you want a new one which i dont know the price )
ecu: $75 - $200 ( depends on who you get it from, unless you want a new one .... delaership price on new p28 ecu
$ 700 from the dealership, thats just rediculous)
shift linkage: $50-75 (depends on who get it from)
clutch kit ( clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing ) : $119.99 brand new from autozone
shifter: check ebay !
master and slave cylynder (if the tranny doesnt have it : $100 for both (used))
pedals set: $60 (used)
gauge cluster for 5 speed : $50 - $100 ( depends on mileage used also )
cluster wiring harness : $40

ok i dont know if im missing something out i cant remember but all these informations is based on a place called hilltop honda here in tri-cities tn/va and quoted for a 95 civic ex but i hope this kinda gives you an idea also labor $300-$700 depending on who install it

I'm interested in this as well, my civic has an automatic and I'm just starting to learn how to drive stick from my dad. I haven't heard good things about the switch, nothing else has to be tweaked in the engine for the transition?

you don't need a harness for the cluster.. the clusters will swap directly without any modification
