Default Help 95 auto ex wont switch gears

hey,

i have a 95 civic coupe and the only way that it'll switch gears is if i use a key in the little switch release box. the button thats on the gear shift won't even go in from the park option. but the button moves into any other gear when its not in park. anyone know how to fix this. thanks a lot

it's probaly the brake switch.. this controls the stop lights and the shift lock release.. its fairly easy to replace..or is the battery inoperative as this will also cause this problem..

check to see if your brake lights work. if not its probaly the switch. if this is not the problem it could be something wrong with the mechanism underneath the shifter cover. if its the brake switch thats easy to replace.starting your in neutral will not hurt anything as it is made to do this.
