Default Auto Transmission part numbers?

I recently purchased a used a/t for my 1989 civic 4 door dx sedan. After I installed the used a/t I discovered that it requires 27 spline inboards. My original required 25 spline inboards. I don't want to remove the transmission that I just installed so I need to know what car it came from so I can get the correct seals and inboards to finish the installation. Does anyone out there know how I can ID the used tranny so I can figure out what model vehicle it came out of to enable me to buy the correct parts for it. The company I purchased it from has been no help and only want to give me a refund.

Thanks in advance,

Greg

there should be a VIN number somewhere on the transmission then just look up a iste that decodes them and you can figure it out

Thanks for the site above, but I need to decode the number off the transmission, not the car.
The numbers off the transmission are ML4A-6240021

What a nightmare this has become.....I now wish I would have just had my original transmission rebuilt!

HELP....

there should be a VIN plate on the transmission. the vin will tell you what yr and model car it was in originally.

VIN is vehicle identification number.......I need to decode the number for the transmission not the car. I know what car I have, but what I need to know is what car the transmission came out of.

The transmission number is ML4A-6240021
If anyone knows of a decoder for the transmission NUMBERS I would be set!

Thanks

HOLY FUСKING ****!!! how hard is it to understand the vin on the tranny will be from the one it was originally in. not your car it doesnt magically turn into your vin.

please do not respond to my post anymore.
You do not understand the problem and your insulting response above is not helpful.
Thanks,

[edit] I take that back.

Now that I think about it, Honda didn't start putting VINs on engines and trannys until sorta recently. Sorry, I read that you had a 1998, not 1989.

ML4A-6240021. ML4A is the transmission code, 6240021 is probably the serial number. ML4A 4 speed auto transmissions came in 1988-1991 Hondas, i believe with D15B2, D15B6, D15B7, and D16A6 engines. Those came in the Civics and CRXs of that time. There is mention of a CRX over at Honda-tech with a D15B2 and a "stock" ML4A transmission.

Can any of you EF guys add anything to that?
