Default Automatic Life Expectancy

The girlfriend is thinking of buyin an 99 civic ex with an auto tranny. the car's got around 159k miles on it. I don't know much about the automatics & wondering just how long they will live? Thanks!

I have three sisters driving Civics. The 1999 DX has 210K miles, the 2000 DX has 265K miles, and the 2004 has 179K miles. They're all still going. Mine has 130K miles and is doing fine.

As long as you keep up maintenance and don't drive like your automatic transmission is "fast", they'll last awhile.

Well that's reassuring. She's also lookin at an automatic Integra, think its got around 170k miles on it. Since honda builds them, I'm guessing the transmissions are pretty much as reliable as the civic.
