Default axle installation problems

i got a new axle and its basically a bitch to install. i get it in a little bit but it wont go in all the way. it feels like the teeth before the spring clip is grabbing, but the rest if the teeth wont go in. i didnt want to try to hit/force it in unless i have to. do i have to kind of tap (use some force) it in? or is it supposed to just slip in easily?? need help quick, gotta fix it by tomorrow..thanks....

compare the new one to the old one just to make 100% sure that it has the same diameter, and same number of splines. after that, feel free to hit it to get it in there.

thanks....

i dont want to risk damaging the boot. u guys have a specific way to hit it in place without damaging it? plus im doing it on a jack, so its kind of hard to move around and get a lot of force using little space..

you need to put the car on jackstands, not just on one jack. it has to be stable so you can safely smack the end of the axle without knocking the car off the jack

obviously i didnt get it in. its still not going. i tested the tranny side to see if it would fit in the wheel hub and it did. so im guessing the axle is the right size if the tranny and hub are equal that is. i tried banging it in and all sorts of stuff. its just not going. i banged it pretty hard too. 2 hands to force it in, hammer, and a sledge hammer!

should the car be in gear? out of gear?
anything else can help, its just bothersome...

thanks...

Heres what i did.

Grab the sock you used to break the axle nut loose and place it over the end of the axle that goes into your hub. Ones this is done, hold the axle so its straight, then beat the hell out of the socket. If it moves, make the axle straight again and repeat til in.

If that fails, read below

Put the axle in the tranny as far as you can, then place the other end in the hub. Now beat the hub til the axle is set in place.

Ive used both methods and so far theyve both worked.

maybe put alittle grease or oil on the spine and in the axle joint as well... maybe its got a bur or dirt or rust... grease or oil should alow it to slide alittle easier...

just an idea..... the gears coulda got scraped or somethine when removing the old ones.
