if it grinds when you try to put it in gear with the clutch pedal depressed, then you probably have a gear problem. with these cars, look around for a used transmission, it will be cheaper than a rebuild. if you havent put a clutch in this car within about 50k miles, go ahead and replace it while the tranny is being replaced, if you have any mechanical experience, you can do this yourself, pick up a haynes manual and follow it exactly. ive seen these trannys go for under 200 bucks, and ive paid under 150 for the same clutch (a stock replacement) these are good deals, you probably will pay a little more, install should be a couple hundred bucks if you have to pay someone else to do it. For the record, ive saved myself a lot of money by doing my own work, ive replaced three transmissions and four clutches in my hondas, as well as making money working on friends cars. i didnt know what i was doing the first time i changed a clutch, i just followed the haynes manual to the T and it worked perfectly. to say nothing of the pride i take in doing all of my own work. if it doesnt take an expensive machine, i do it myself. if you go for it, come ask for help if you get stuck, good luck!
Thank you for all the help. I think i have bad gear cuz it does grind when the clutch pedal depress all the way, but so far it only grind once or twice.

if possible, have a spare trans on hand when you pull the clutch to check the bearings. ive seen these trannys given away, if you look hard enough. BTW, is it third gear? or is it all of them? and technically, its not a "gear" problem. its a synchronizer problem, my mistake. if its only third, then id say its the tranny.
