Clutch job gone bad?
Hi all, I am new to this forum and am in need of some advice. I have a '93 Honda Civic SI hatchback that has a stock 1.6 motor. I recently got a clutch job done by someone and have encountered some problems. For whatever reason, this happens after warming up my engine for about 5 - 10 mins. When it's cold, you don't notice the problem as much. When I level my clutch to a point where it starts to "catch on", on 1st gear or reverse, my entire engine shakes like my motor mount is no good. It only happens when I level at this startup point. When I am at this point when it shakes, while keeping the clutch steady, I give it a little gas and the problem disappears. But as soon as the engine revs down, the problem comes back, if I leave the clutch leveled at the same point. This problem was never here before the clutch job and everything was working fine. I have a feeling that the person I brought it either didn't do a very thorough job? Or maybe my flywheel needs to be changed, since it has never been changed since the life of it's car? I had him replace the clutch itself, pressure plate and throw bearing, so all these components are brand new and for the right 1.6 motor. I don't want to drop another $250 or so, just to find out the problem is still there. If any has any expertise with this issue or can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Please help me!
was it a stock clutch replacement or a racing clutch????
a stiffer clutch can give alot more chatter and it not to forgiving when trying to ease the clutch slowly for a smooth start.
and ask who did it if they had the flywheel resurfaced.

well if they didnt resurface the flywheel that could be it. the flywheel should be flat and smooth when you put on a new clutch. it could have been alright but chances are it was wear and groves which could be what is grabing because its not a smooth flat surface for the clutch to slide smoothly on when slipping the clutch for a smooth take off.
if you had a shop do the job id go back and complain to them. but if you just had a friend help you then have him help you again and do it right this time.

You have to take the flywheel into consideration when replacing the clutch. The flywheel could have stress cracks caused by heat of fatigue which would cause chatter and would need to be replaced. Or it could just need resurfacing like addiction said.
my vote is the fly wheels ruff. its just like your brake pads when you replace them your suposed to have the rotors and drums turned smooth with the new pads. otherwise your braking will suck until the pads fully break in which is basically just going to wear the pads quicker since they have more pressure on the raised spots and none on the low spots until they fully wear in....
if you just drive the car for awhile im sure the clutch will wear into the worn flywheel and feel ok depending on how bad the flywheel was that is...
when i changed my old civics clutch i was lucky and the clutch was still good and pretty new looking and the flywheel was flat. i just used a palm sander and ruffed up the pad area on the flywheel and slapped it back on, but if it had worn and i could feel it i would have had it turned smooth.
sounds to me like your clutch guy just wanted to get done and didnt really care to do the job RIGHT!
it probably squeaks to from him not greasing the pivot points also most likely as well
