Default CV Joints

I need to replace the cv joints on my 90 civic. My front end guy said it would cost $300. I am somewhat mechanical. How hard is it to do this? What tools and equipment would I need? Thanks

Usually you don't change the CV joint, you change the whole axle. The only special toos you will need is a ball joint seperator and an impact might come in handy. The axle nut has quite a bit of torque on it. This thread has a description of how to change the axle.

look on ebay and you can find both cv axles brand new for like 80 bucks. All you need is some needle nose pliers, ball joint seperator, rubber mallot, impact, some impact sockets and that is about it. Is extremely easy to do and wont take you more than 1.5 hours to do your first one and then the second one will be on in like 45 minutes...
