Default input shaft

Hi,

I just bought a 90si, and the input shaft is making noise. I have tried looking for another tranny but can't find one. Has anyone ever changed the input shaft bearing, if so how hard is it?

its a fairly easy job to do as long as your patient and keep track of what goes where. how bad is the noise?

Its not to bad, just annoying when i'm at a stop light. I just can't belive how hard it is to find another tranny for it. My 97 hatch started doing the same thing, and it only took me a couple days to find one on CL.

are you sure its the imput shaft and not like a throw out bearing because those make a waterfall like noise when they are going out.... It probably isnt the whole shaft persay but the bearings on the ends.... if it was me i would start with the bearings on both ends and see if it fixes the problem rather than replaceing the whole input shaft and gears/collers/dog teeth/etc.

I'm almost positive it's not the throwout bearing making the noise, because the sound gets alot worse when I down shift. If it was the throwout the noise should be the same, on the upshift, or downshifts.

true so it makes the noise when you have the clutch pushed in? Sounds like the bearings on the ends would be my first guess

No, it makes the noise when the clutch pedal in out. Also what is the difference in gear ratios if any between the SI and the other models? I found a tranny out of a DX, would I see much differance if I were to switch over to that one?

about 95 % of the time if its making noise when its out then its your throw out bearing

Doesn't the throwout bearing engage the pressure plate when the clutch is pressed it? As far as i know, the throwout bearing turns when its engaging the pressure plate/clutch.
