Default Leaking clutch master cylinder...

Hey all!

I'm trying to fix a prob on a girlfriend of mines 92 Civic CX. Her clutch pedal just pushes all the way to the floor and won't engage the clutch. I added fluid and it seems okay now, but I checked the master cyclinder inside the car to see if anything looked abnormal and it's leaking around the rubber seal where the pedal actually contacts the plunger. It's a thick oily liguid leaking from the plunger seal. I'm assuming this means the master cylinder is bad, but wanted a second opinion. What do you think?

TIA,
Jeremy

This happened a loooooong time ago to my civic, back when it was my dads car. He took it to the dealership and they gave him some crazy price to fix it, so he just left it, and somehow or another the problem went away. I have absolutely no idea how that happened, but my dad said it just fixed itselt. I am not reccommending that you just leave it tho.

Yeah, it looks like the master cylinder needs to be replaced. The fluid reservoir was completely empty so I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it. I can't find any evidence of fluid leakage anywhere else throughout the entire car. It's a 1992 with only 81k miles on it.

yeah, ive got the same thing on mine inside. i dont know if its getting worse or whatever, but i have one from the jdm gsr, so ill see if it fits. if so, it should be a little bigger, so ill get better clutch response.

Have you noticed that your clutch pedal is going to the floor a little further as the leaking gets worse. I'm on my way right now to get a new master cylinder. I'll let you all know.

mine seems to be pretty solid. it was leaking down a little when i was sitting in traffic, but it was because i had a tiny leak at the slave cylinder. fixed that, and it seems good now. even though i have the little bit of fluid on the cylinder inside.

Yeah, everyone here in Orlando wanted $100 for a master cylinder. I didn't bite. I bled the whole system and it firmed up quite a bit. I told her to watch fluid levels and let me know if the clutch starts feeling loose again. There was a lot of air in the line so I'm suspecting a leak. Where, I don't know. That'll be a different post. Thanks for the advice!

if it ran out of fluid, thats why there was so much air in the lines.
