Default preventive matiance for tranny's

i own a 98 civic dx 5 spd stick, with 75k, and am just looking to do a regular tune up b/c idk what the previous owner has ever done, and don't want long term headaches b/c i plan on keeping the care a while. Any suggestions or tips on how to keep the tranny going smooth and well for a long time. I was told to change tranny fluid, but there is no filter on the civic. Anything else, thanks

Change the tranny fluid (drain and refill).
You need 2 quarts of manual transmission fluid. Don't cheap out - use only Honda genuine Manual Transmission Fluid. It's about 6.50 a qt at your local Honda dealer, and you will need 2 bottles.
here's the DIY instructions: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1687986

That should be all the maintenance your transmission will need.

I run Castrol GTX 15w-50 motor oil in my transmission.. '98 ITR mission with Mugen diff... No need to spend 6.50 a quart.

I used to run Mobil1 synthetic motor oil in my transmission, but it was grinding a little shifting into gears too hard. I changed it and put in genuine Honda manual transmission fluid and the grinding stopped.

Seriously? You only need two bottles, which is $13. Why would you cheap out and get anything other than Honda manual transmission fluid when it's only $13?
