Default A/T Tranny, Woes

Good Morning, I have a 1991 Honda CRX unfortunately it is as stated, an Auto, I hate autos. But now I hate this Auto at this moment even more, the car is pretty solid, I've care of it the about 6 months I've owned it, and I'm gradually as money available in my budget working on it. Law School is REALLY, expensive! But, my question is if anyone knows possibly my tranny will not shift at all, I put the selector in D3 or D4 and its like the gears are not even there, basically. The only way it will even get to 2nd is to manually put the darn thing in the number 2 gear, but then it will only do, 35-40 mph, at 4k rpm. I've spent more than I paid for the car on a person to "tear down" the tranny, but it was "okay" on the inside. The "Check Engine" light comes on sometimes while I'm driving, I'm wondering if possibly it could be the Transmission Solenoid.

I've looked it over the past couple of days, as I'm on the bus, or bumming rides, 'cause I do not want to damage.

I'm wondering if there is anyone familiar with this problem and can offer any, and I mean any advice.

I've called the Honda Dealer and I cannot even try this out, the part is not made anymore and Honda salvage yards in L.V. are few and far between.

Thanks and goodnight!
