Tranny possibly going bad
Hey guys
Ive got a 96' Civic LX automatic and when it shifts to 2nd and third gear, it over revs and shifts at the last second, which means i really cant "hit the gas" untill i get to 3rd because it makes the whining over reved sound
Is it going out? is there anything i can do to make it last longer before its gone or?
Also, when its at idle, ( like when i come up to a stop sign,) it shuts off
and when im at idle and hit the gas, it like "leaps" with a thud
So im pretty gentle with it
Any comments?

sounds like the clutch is slipping, you can try changeing the trans fluid that might help and it isn't that expensive if you do it yourself. Also search on here and you'll find a lot of info about different transmission problems.
For your idle problem, it should idle around 800 rpm's just under 1000 once it's at normal operating temp. It could be a couple reasons for a bad idle. One could be that the engines all gunked up with sludge and carbon. Run some seafoam (search for more info)through the vac lines and good injector cleaner through the gas (expensive stuff).
Another could be that you need a new pcv valve and/or clean your 'idle air control valve' IACV. You can run some carbon cleaner through it (Look up for more info).

Yeah, i just chaged the transmission fluid a couple weeks back
ill try some injector fluid
Its around 800 when i satrt it up, its just when im driving around for a while, it will idle wayyyy low and shut off, i happens once every couple days.
Thanks for the info
