General Civic Talk - '06 Seatbelt change

I would like the driver's seatbelt to lock like the other seatbelts do. On them you pull the belt out all the way, and when released they lock in position until you unhook them. This is so that child-seats lock in position. The driver belt is inertia only. I prefer to be held in better like in my '65 and '67 Volvos. Is there a way to accomplish this? Will putting in one of the other belt tensioners work here?

Although the seats are formed pretty well, I still want to be held in better for extreme cornering.

my only advice on this one is to experiment...try ordering one of the tensioners from honda, and see if it would fit. other than that, you could always just install an aftermarket racing seat with a five point harness. seems a bit like overkill though, dosen't it?

I haven't tried this in an 06 but it will probably work. This is what I do when I'm racing my Legacy, and what I USED to do in my Civic before I bought my harness:

slide your seat back all the way
pull your seatbelt tight -- it should lock into place
then slide your seat forward until you can't breathe!
that should hold you in place.

but keep in mind it's not entirely safe, because you can't lean forward to check your blind spot, etc.

that's a really good idea! experiment with the slack to make sure you can reach your pedals properly. you could probably put a small black Sharpie dot on your belt right where you like it so that you can line it up every time with the perfect slack/tightness. I was just hauling a$$ around a corner today wishing I could get my belt to grip tighter. good thread

As I stated in my post, the driver belt is inertia only. It will not lock as will all the other belts in the car. The Volvo belts were apparently like your Legacy belts.

No, I didn't say to let it all the way out like you would for a child seat. I mean, tug on it hard and fast, it should stop. Like when you get in an accident and the car stops, the seatbelt "locks" to keep you from flying through the windshield. I have a hard time believing that the 06+ belts don't do this?

Yes, that is the way the '06 belts work. I shall give that method a try. As long as I don't exhale,locking the belt and sliding up into itshould work. Lol..........

mxs: I gave that a try this morning. It did work, but as you stated, you have a hard time breathing. It will (have to) do until I find a better solution. Tnx.
