I have a 05 civic that blew a head gasket. After fixing the head gasket the car ran well for for a couple weeks, then it stopped running. When I crank it, it starts but only for a second and then it dies. I replaced the fuel pump assembly with a used one that was working. Any thoughts

 

When it dies, do the oil and battery lights on the dash come on like they should with the key on but not running? If they don't, the ignition switch may be bad-- it is only powering up the ignition when in the start position but not run. This causes the engine to seem to start but then die when you let go of the key.

 

Yes, both lights come on. The oil light comes on after the battery light so I had to wait for it. It even starts after it dies without turning the key off and starting over.

 

I am desperate for help. Does anyone have an idea what to do? I need to get this car running.
