My step brothers head unit isnt an aux port. Its on the front of the unit which is crappy looking, but its a USB port, not an aux port. About the receiver you recommended (JVC KD-PDR30): Is the port that connects to the ipod plugged in the front or the back? Im asking because it has an aux port on the front and in the items description it says "»inputs: front-panel auxiliary input"
heres what the features say... (does this mean the ipod would connect in the front?)
AUX Input
Front
USB Input
No
A/V Inputs
No
some new units ecspecialy sonys have front usb, i dont know a whole lot about it, i think it would look tacky if u had a jump drive sticking out of ur radio. the jvc (KDPDR30) has a cable that plugs into the bottom of ur ipod permamently attached to the back of the headunit i think it has a front aux too but thats just garbage, it sounds like poo. if you dont like the looks of the jvc sony has a 610u or something like that but it has no pre-outs for if you wanted to add a sub or a 4ch amp in the future
Im on crutchfield browsing around.
That one sony you mentioned the 610Ui (give or take a letter/number, link here)
If this is the correct one, it has front aux and front usb, but also rear aux. What kind of cords are ipods normally connected to receivers with? aux to ipod kind of cords?

what kind of ipod do you have?
if you have anything bug a shuffle if you look on the bottom there is a port, it is the one that you hook up to sync and charge it with, both the JVC i mentioned and that sony 610ui have a cable comming off the back of the unit that will plug into that port i just mentioned.

it is something that is too new to have a name, if u look in the title is says ipod compatible. almost all headunits are ipod compativle but only a few (the jvc and the sony) have the cable built in, your just going to have to trust me. i am going to bed g'night
+1 for jeff saying the aux sounds like poo. i have an expensive alpine HU (CDA-9857) and i was too cheap to buy the ipod cable so i bought an aux cable instead and i never use it cuz it sucks! its awesome for non-iPod mp3 players, but if you have an ipod, buy the ipod cable haha

i am an installer for circuit city and i will tell you i have heard horror stories of what they do to cars and i thought it was just some jive bs till i saw it first hand i would so go to circuit city even if they charged, which they dont, if you want to save the cash on the accsessories go crutchfiend, if ur fairly compentent with a set of tools you can tackle it yourself, i have faith in you! otherwise if you buy it from cc online u will be paying somewhere in the neighborhood of 200.
and for ur future speaker job go polk, even if u can just afford the db (base model) they are phenominal!
