first
hey guys...first time posting in the section because this is my first sound system (dont know why it took so long haha, just never got around to it)
a guy at my work (who has a sound system more powerful than the car iteself haha) is getting my friend and I a deal, i told him i want loud, but mostly clean and balanced so i figured a single 10in sub would suffice
heres what he suggested
10in L7 kicker sub
kicker amp (not sure of the model)
alpine HU (it costs like 500$ on the internet)
+ all wiring and installation for 1000$ (canadian dollars)
sound good? this guy is pretty intense about his audio so i trust him
i looked at my speakers today, my 6.5s are alpine (not sure the model, but they are blue haha) and my 6x9s are JBL GTO series...will they be good enough or will they be a weak link in the setup?
and lastly...as it stands with my pioneer hu and nothign else, i have a terrible rattle in the rear deck area. Is it because there is too much bass coming from the 6x9s or will it stay even with a sub?

well you seem awfully unsure about everything you're supposed to get..
i suggest figuring out exactly what it is you're getting before asking us to give you our opinion.. its hard to suggest one speaker over another when the only info we have is.. 'its blue'
you dont know the model number or the output of the amp or the sub.
its hard to tell you if you're gettin a good deal if we dont know what you're getting.
you didnt mention an enclosure either. sooo.. it seems like you dont really know what you're getting.. in which case.. its not a good deal.
and the rattling on your rear shelf.. its only going to get worse with a sub.. unless of course you turn the music up loud enough to overpower the rattle.. then you wont hear it.
find out exactly what you're getting before you comit a grand to it.

I say you try and get all the same brand. As for the JBL's, i would say replcae them with Alpines. The Alpine HU is a good idea, and Kicker's subs are always good. I say get a Kicker Mono amp to match the one sub. Installation really isnt that hard, if this guys knows so much about audio he should be able to help you install everything. Hardest part will be the HU, but after that its not that difficult. Good luck man
I agree with Flip...same brand with everything with the exception of batteries/wire.
The reason is most companies design their components to work TOGETHER.
Mono block is the way to go....and a single 10 is a great choice because a 10 will give you the kick, and the boom...all in one little package.
As everyone else stated...definetly reasearch waht you are getting. dont EVER just take someones word for it. Google any part numbers you have and more than likely you will be able to view SEVERAL reviews of the product...good or bad.

thanks for the input guys,
i dont have many details because my buddy just talked to the guy, i havnt talked to him myself. But dont worry, it will all be explained to me (the guy whos doing it is actually the manager at an electronics store so it will be done legit) when i go into the store. And as for installation, im sure i could do it, iv installed HUs before in my car and friends and understand audio equipment fairly well (recording studio in the basement, more wires than you could imagine haha) but id rather get the whole setup professionally done, im sure they know some little things i would overlook to make it a cleaner setup and can probably help with that rattle. Oh and the amp he mentioned is actually an alpine monoblock, not kicker. I will for sure mention going all one brand and what you guys are saying makes sense, ill see what the guy says.
i promise ill do my homework, and ill let you guys know when its all said and done

Sounds good.
I second the JBL's, replace them, sell the old ones for cheap on ebay, help some guy out that has nothing but blown rears.
As for the setup, 1k canadian sounds decent for all of the components listed, but as stated before, you would have to post details for us to give any reasonable suggestions.
And Alpine is the way to go on the Head Unit, I won't ever buy a different brand, unless they quit making them.
It's like Diamond systems, they used to make the best video cards on the plannet, then they went out of business, but came back last year sometime. I miss my diamond video card :-(

Sounds kind of expensive. I got a 15" L7, Kicker ZX750.1 Amp, 0 gauge wiring kit, and a headunit that retailed for $600 at that time for around $750cdn after shipping. The box cost me $35 in supplies and the installation of everything took a couple of hours.
