That is not always the case. In my 1996 Ford Thunderbird I had some Infinity Kappa 6.5" speakers in the front doors and some 6x8" Boston Acoustic Pros in the rear quarters and my system sounded pretty damn good. I went through three different sets of subwoofers before I settled on the first generation 12" Kicker Solobaric! That system played loud, clean, and left me with room in the trunk for suitcases, groceries, etc.

sony is a quality company and look at their gear - its ****. having a dif brand sub from ur speakers is a lot dif than speakers. speakers have a lot more things to hear..... and ur idea of pretty damn good must be a lot diffrent than mine because a car isnt sounding pretty damn good without comps for me. And actualy if u wana get technical rear speakers actualy make ur car sound worse.

I totally agree with you on the rear speaker thing. I will take a good front stage over having those high frequencies bouncing off the rear glass and screwing everything up. I am of the opinion that having good rear speakers only makes things better for the back seat passengers UNLESS you are only doing a simple front/rear speaker setup with or without an amp AND NO SUB!

Heck, in my hooptie owning college days, I had an old POS Crown Vic with two 10" kickers comps under the back deck in a box with a decent front stage. That install was a royal PITA because I had to cut a ton of sheet metal, but in the end, it was worth it. People used to freak out when I would tell them that I only had 6x9s in the back with some 6.5s in my doors. Come to think of it, I am going to get some measurements on the Civic and see if I can get some 8" subs under that back deck.
