interior neons
Does anyone by any chance have a write up of some sort on mounting neons to light up the foot area of the front seats. Also I need to know how to wire it to a mounted switch on the dash. Anything would help.
you will have a positive/negative coming off the neon....a switch has 3 prongs. one for a hot wire, one for a ground, and one for the positive wire. you are going to have to ground the neon tube and also run a ground wire to the switch to make the led light up. its pretty simple. just dont touch the hot wire to the ground!!! you'll figure it out. as for a hot wire, just tap into your fuse box and run a wire to the switch.
cathodes are a bit different, yes. Both of the tubes are plugged into a transformer, and then the transformer gets 12V power. Its very inconvenient, since there's only about 6" of wire between the transformer and cathodes, and you cant extend the wires either. It's still doable if you just mount the transformer in the middle under the dash, but just takes a little longer. And then from there, wire the box to a switch, and the switch to the fusebox under the dash
I just installed neons in the front of my car. The transformer had plenty of lead off and to it... I mounted the 2 transformers behind the stereo area, and stuck the neons down using double sided sticky things that came with it. (Needed 2 for each side, because they kept falling with 1). For the wiring, I hooked into the old (constant) power supply from the stereo (which I rewired to the rear battery, although you can use it anyways). And then I grounded it to the dome light ground wire. Then, I mounted a second ground off that and put a switch on both ground wires.
I can now turn on the neons permanently, turn them on when the doors open, and turn them off completely. I stuck the switches under the dash.

I'm going to jump in here and suggest LEDs. LEDs have a much longer lifespan than will the cold cathodes, they also require less power yet are much more bright. They're small and not bulky plus will come with double sided tape anyway to mount absolutely wherever. The wiring has pretty much been explained though, but i wired mine directly to the battery since the LEDs had resistors as well (of course had a switch to control on and off)
