Please Help! Removing Stereo Equ From 98 Civic LX Sedan
Hey guys,
As I've said before in other posts, I'm getting ready to purchase an '06 honda civic...HOWEVER...I would like to take my stereo equipment out of my 1998 Honda Civic LX Sedan before trading it in. I cannot figure out how to get the cd player out...I've never worked on a civic before and had a friend of mine do it while I was away...he moved to North Carolina and I can't seem to contact him for some reason...I need to know how to get the rear speakers out and how to get the head unit out...I took off the back seats..or pushed them forward by putting the key in, but can't figure out how to get the frame to pop off for me to get the rear speakers changed...the head unit..how do I get the panel (air conditioning, vents, etc) off so that I can get the head unit out?
I'm not very car savy as you can tell, but I need to get this stuff out ASAP...
thank you for your help in advance!

If you're taking out the dash to get to the cd player, you have to take out your hazards button, with the whole little asembly that its in. Then theres a screw in there that you twis out. Also, two screws in front of the insturment cluster, they are on the top. Then pull the dash out. Then you could see the cd player down in there. Also try just taking the face plute off, and use some thin knives on either side of the cd player to pry it, and just pull it out. Far as the rear speaker go, have you tried poping the trunk, and accesing them from there?
VERY IMPORTANT!!!!
Here's a solution to install an aftermarket stereo in a 96-98 Civic and keep the dome light triggered by the door switches w/o hiding the factory radio inside the dash or cutting any wires:
On the larger green plug-in harness find the light green wire w/ black stripe and the light green wire w/ red stripe.
Create a 2" jumper wire out of slightly larger gauge braided wire.
Trace the location of each of these wires into the plug-in and firmly press the jumper into each of their locations.
Check that the dome switch is in the center position and open each door to make sure that the switches are again working.
Secure the jumper in place by taping it to the plug-in, reinstall your aftermarket unit, and enjoy...
Let me know if you need help here!!
