Sound system
Ya... i'm 17 and i'm working on a competiton quality system.. and no, herb, just becuase somone younger likes loud music dosent mean they care if everyone else hears it.. thats just a byproduct, get over yourself, beleive it or not, most people into car audio are helpful..
I've actually never met a somone like you .. most people into car audio will help just about anyone to try and help the car audio world grow, not **** on people to try and make themselvs and there multi-thousand dollar system feel cool.
Subs pound just as hard weather your 16 or 50
Anyway, ya, quad, just work on one peice at a time, it's just like with the car tuners... dont try to save every penny so you can get your full system up a bit faster, just save normally and upgrade as you go... buy a sub and use some amp you got laying around (if you do) then save up and buy an amp (or do whatever order you want)... and pound as hard as you want.. for every person that glares at you, one will smile at your friend ghetto dancing in your passenger seat.

Well 15" L7's aren't really good for anything other than playing s few notes really really loud. Not musical subs by any means. The 12" L7's will play just as loud while maintaining atleast a little sound quality (if they're in the perfect box). But really, unless you're trying to be an an ******* and shake all the rearview mirrors within 50ft of you, the 15" l7's aren't practical; and in a Civic, most other 15's are not very practical.
Many people don't realize how much sound you get from having just 1 sub. Doubling the power and adding another sub will only gain you ~3db which really not much.
If this system is just for the enjoyment of those inside the car, I'm willing to bet you'd be more than happy with a single 12" in a medium sized properly tuned ported box with ~500w rms. It'll sound great, won't rattle the hell out of your car all the time, and still be able to get LOUD when needed.
I've had a lot of good experiences with Alpine Type R's - very musical subs that can get very loud [in the right box].
You could pick up one 12" Type R for $200 from Crutchfield for $200
An Alpine MRD-M650 from Crutfheid for $299
Wires for $60
Have a local shop build you a properly tuned ported box for $120

ok so your saying my L7 is only good for a few notes? and that two subs is worthless? well im goin to put this sh t in my car http://www.digitalgrabber.com/audio/...subwoofer.html now whut lol. aint that thing crazy
No, I'm stating facts & trying to teach you a thing or two about car audio.
It's a fact that 15" L7's are pretty useless - there is no sense of sq at all, it was designed to be loud. However, the 12"s handle more power better, are more efficient, can play louder, and sound better.
2 subs are not useless. Since you're on a Civic forum though, I assume you drive one. Civics are small economically friendly cars. Often, filling the trunk/hatch with 2 12" sub enclosures means no room for anything else.

Okay, sound quality comes from the response curve the speaker produces. The flatter the curve, the higher the sound quality. You want all frequencies to be played at the same level for perfect SQ. No speaker is going to produce a completely flat line and play every note at the exact same level. However, some are designed as spl (sound pressure level) speakers (like Kicker Solo Barics). This means they were developed to play a small group of frequencies very loudly, or have a large peak in the middle of the response curve.
So ideally, you want a subwoofer with a nice smooth response curve that will play from low bass notes all the way up to say 80hz [where you'll set the amp's crossover to quite sending a signal for any frequencies higher than that] without a great difference in volume or loudness.
I know someone that was running L7's in a big time competition, and he spent a lot of time time researching/experimenting to find the differences between the 10's, 12's, and 15's. He now runs the 12's because they perform the best, and sound better than the 15s.

yea man im thinking the amp is gonna be closer to $750. but i have heard 1 15" L7 and it beats hard. i cant imagine 2. but post some pics when you get your setup finished. if i were u id just save. if you just setup for one you are gonna end up paying more if you get 2 separate amps ( if thats what your talking about )
Here is a little graph to try to explain what I was talking about: The white line is the response curve of a 15" L7 put in the compact/vented enclosure recommended by Kicker. The yellow line is a 12" Type R in the vented enclosure recommended by Alpine.
