Default Speaker polarity

Hi, I just installed my speakers which I mentioned in the other thread and they sound awesome. I am just wondering how important it is to have the correct polarity on the wires to the speakers? How can I tell which is which in a 00 hatch?

Thanks.

The polarity is very important if you want it to sound proper. If the polarity is wrong, some of the sound will get cancelled. You want all your speakers pushin at the same time.

Usually, the wire with a black stripe (or the one that is completely black) is ground.

It is very important. Black has nothing to do with it and they technically arent "groud" since speakers are powered by AC current.

In your car the reds and the blues are +. The greys and the browns are -.

You can tell if they are in phase by fading it to one set and the balance it right or left and if the bass in the song get louder when you fade it they one is indeed out of phase. If all of them are hooked up backwards they will also sound fine and be ok and no need to change them because they are still in phase with each other.

If they're hooked up backwards, you'll hear high notes instead of bass, and you'll hear bass when they hit the highs.

JUST KIDDING!

Thanks for all the previous replies and assistance. I cannot tell whether the polarity is correct, the back ones are allright because I know the wire colours, but the front ones? Does anyone know which colour is which?

Also I have recieved my headunit today, Kenwood one, how easy is it to install and will I need anything else to be able to install it (harness??)? Or should I get a professional to do it? How much is a reasonable price to pay?

Thankyou.
