i putting a aftermarket stereo in. got it all wired up. kept the stock head unit in because of the keyless entry. the aftermarket stereo turns on. but the stock stereo does not. the stock stereo does have both the constant power wire going to it, and the power wire going to it. and they both have 12 volts. power is getting to the stock head unit but it just doesnt turn on. im stumped. without the stock head unit on. then the keyless entry wont work. what is the problem and how can i fix this?

 

Why wouldn't the keyless entry work if the stock headunit is off? It's not like the stock headunit is turned on when you use keyless entry... if it did have to be turned on then in stock form the key would have to be turned to at least accessory to use keyless entry, defeating the entire purpose.

Do you have the keyless entry wires wired to the stock headunit too? Or just the two 12V wires? There should be 3 wires going to the old stereo (i'm not sure what wires, i'm just going by what the Y-harness in the link below looks like) once you are done.

im finaly got the stock stereo to finally turn on. apparently i blew a fuse. oops. but, when i tryt o reprogram my keyless entry. it doesnt work. i know the steps for it. got them off of this website. when i go to reprogram it, i hit the valet button on the stereo, i hear the lock actuators work, from there i hit and hold the button on the keypad. nothing happens. but if i keep the valet button pressed in while im pressing and holding the button on the keypad. i hear the lock work once. when i also press the keypad several times with the valet button still pressed on the radio. i hear the lock actuators work to. but as soon as i release the valet button, the keyless entry doesnt work. im stumped now with the keyless entry.
