I got 4 long flashes, thus giving a code 4.

And the CEL remains on until I turn off the ignition. And everytime, without fail, when I turn it back on it clears.

This is a very tricky problem. I think the CRANK ANGLE (CRANK SENSOR) malfunction and the abnormal code clearing during starting are probably unrelated.

Because storing CEL codes in the ECU requires constant power to the ECU and starting causes you to lose CEL codes, I looked at the wiring diagram for a possible connection between the starting system and the ECU. As shown in the picture, fuse 18 (7.5 A) in the under-dash fuse/relay box connects the starting system to the ECU. As a remote possibility, I would check whether fuse 18 might be blown. Good luck!

The 7.5 fuse is not blown. lol, this is nuts. The CEL went off two times todays on the freeway, and neither time was a accelerating quickly. I was just driving at a 75mphs.

Very very interesting but tricky problem. I will continue to search for other possible solutions.

Is the CEL code still the same one? If so, in the meanwhile, you should try to troubleshoot that CRANK sensor circuit malfunction, although I know it won't be easy in the cold weather of WI. Here in Houston TX, on the other hand, the weather is quite nice!

Well, I don't check the code while I'm driving but, it has never been a different code, so I'm only assuming that it's still code 4. I will check it the next time though.

I did follow that wiring of what I could see and didn't find any frays, so idk.

If there are no obvious frayed wires, then you should next test the connector to the sensors. First inspect it for looseness. Maybe it's not properly locked into position with the sensor connector. Also unplug the connector and look for metal corrosion at electrical contact points. If all is fine, the next step is to test for electrical continuity and resistance in wires and connectors, as described in the pictures. These tests require you to have a multimeter and know how to use it.

I also need to know exactly what you mean when you say that your CEL code clears after you start the car. Do you mean that the CEL light is no longer ON or that the CEL code in the ECU is gone, or both. I have been under the impression that the CEL code clears from the ECU.

BUMP

I pulled the code again today because this time my car threw a code at 40mph. This time it was code 43 and not code 4.

The quick blinks are QUICK and dim. I'm thinking that I couldn't see them during the day. So, 43 means...
....Fuel Supply System defective or malfunctioning fuel supply system

I replaced my fuel pump not too long ago. Could it be a clogged fuel filter??

For code 43, the problem could be with either the fuel supply system, O2 sensor/circuit, or loose wires/connections at connectors C102 (connected to C213) and C111 (O2 sensor connector) in the engine compartment (see connector locations in picture in my next post).

You can try to troubleshoot potential fuel supply system problems by matching your problem to a symptom in the chart (see picture below). For example, if your problem is misfiring and rough running, then you should consider the fuel injectors, contaminated fuel, and fuel pressure regulator in that order.

whoops, i was going to mention that long flashes are the 10s digit, but forgot that you had edited your original post. sorry
