Default testing an ecu, is it possible?

i have asked a couple places, they say no! you cant bench test an ecu. the ecu is the only thing holding me up, at this point. when i plug everything in, hook up my battery, what i do get is that all my trouble lights in the gauge cluster light up, with no key in the ignition!!! i cant find anything that i have wired incorrectly. and the ecu itself never gives any flash code at all. so whaddya guys think, bad ecu? or keep double checking my wiring? or anybody gat a trouble shooting suggestion? this is real important because as of sunday i became a saturn owner /driver. but the car is boring to drive...

You dont know anyone else with a Civic? Swap out into a known good car and see if it works. My guess would be wiring though.

actually, ive got two other ecu's but they are from sohc non v-tec. one from a dpfi and one from an mpfi. i'll try the mpfi and see if the same problem occurs. dont know any body else with a v-tec civic, but ill keep my eyes open..... i'll be back in a few..minutes?

i took the ecu that was in my si, hooked it all up, connected the battery, and no lights. i turned on the ignition and then all the check lights came on, like they should. so the other ecu must be bad?
