Default Swaping motor and tranny?

I have a 1991 Honda Civic DX 4 door and a 1996 Honda Civic DX 2 door hatchback... I am wondering if I can take the motor and tranny out of the 96 and put it into the 91? I am also wondering if I can take the front axles out of the 96 and put them into the 91 as well?

Welcome to the forum.

The motors should be interchangeable. I have seen many 88-91 Civics running with D16y7 / y8 motor installed.

Although I am not well versed in pre 92 Civics, I would think that most everything, including the axles, are interchangeable. I would look into the wiring differences as that would be the main difference between the motors I think.
