Default engine swaps and emissions

what is the law as far as passing smog with an engine swap? i looked around some carb sites, but couldnt find any direct answers. thank you!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what engine you have in your car, you are going to be held responsible for that year model's emmisions requirements. As long as you can pass a sniffer test it's all good.

In California it doesn't matter. You still have to pass emissions regardless of what engine you have.

well my main concern is to see if it is possible to pass smog with a jdm engine in a usdm car. i want to get a 18c5, but all the ones i see are jdm, i would not want to have that come back to haunt me if i cant pass smog.

it can be done. im on my way in in the next couple of weeks to get my jdm b18c(1) CARBed. ill let you know how it goes. it has to be the same year or newer than the car, it has to be installed exactly the same as in the car it came from, and it has to have a USDM ecu.
