Hello! I currently drive a 97 dx 4d with about 135k miles on it.

Im sure the thing had much more power in it's early days, but now its sort of a dog. Does anyone have any tips to get it to regain some of its old power that it most likely has lost over the years? The lady who owned it before me was a big of an idiot, and im quite suprised the engine is in such good condition it is in today. I just got the water pump and alternator replaced, cap and rodor, and general maintanence done on it. That helped. What else?

 

what kinda power are u looking for.. the DX is an econo box.. only 106 hp .. thats barely enough for passing power even in a 5spd.. basic dealer tuneup at 135k miles will take care of most of your basic stock needs though..

 

was thinking about using oil additives to clean up all the carbon and **** inside the engine pistons and whatnot. Is this a good idea on such an old engine?

 

I'm not sure about additives, but I would look into replacing spark plug wires, they wear out over time, and some performance ones would give you a nice power boost.

 

How much of a power boost could performance spark plug wires give? Would it even be noticeable?

if u took it to the dealership or w/e for a rutine tune up, they should have replaced them. but if u know they havnt been changed then u should replace them. they wont really give u power, just smoother acceleration.

 

use some engine cleaner like SeaFoam. it cleans your engine so it runs almost like new and youw ill feel the power.
