cable and hydrotrannys are the only signifigant difference...the b18b has like 2 more hp but same compression...it just depends on what car your putting it in...EF B18a...EG B18b

But either way they will both bolt up to a cable or hydro tranny right? Also either one will bolt up in either the EF or EG models right? I mean w/ the correct motor mounts of course.

Yes with the correct equip...it really depends on what car your putting it in...if your car is odb0 orobd1 then i would get a 93 B18a1 if you are already obd 2 then get a 96+ B18b...what car you putting this in?

I don't have the shell for it to go in right now. The plan is to build the motor and about half way through that I'm going to get a 92-95 hatch to put it in. Doesn't matter whichmodel hatch to me...I'm going to strip everything anyways. But what you said above ^^ then I should get a 92-93 B18A1...I know the head set up is a little bit different from the 90-91 B18A1. Can I use a cable tranny on that model B18? I'd really like to stay away from hydro just for the hassel of extra parts. Will the cable tranny bolt right up to the 92-93 B18 w/o having to modify anything extra?

OBD shouldn't be any kind of determining factor. You'll want to use OBD1 regardless for tuning purposes, which you can either get by using an OBD1 ECU or converting an OBD2 ECU via harness.

As for the transmission, I like hydraulics better. It's been my experience that they're easier to work with. I've seen several cable to hydro conversion kits around, but never a hydro to cable.

Alright. I apreciate it guys. I've made my mind up to get the 92-93 B18A1. Plus it's like $100 cheaper than the B18B1. I'll keep you posted on how the build is coming and I'm sure I'll be asking for some more of your opinions later on. Thanks Again!
