tuners usually tune by the hour....just call around your local area for dynos/tuners and see what they say

I say you could install the whole thing yourself....so there's no labor....the tune would be the biggest thing other than the initial kit. That $6K kit includes the rods/pistons and turbo kit, and also fuel managament, and i think thats pretty expensive but it'd give you some nice numbers and a reliable engine (if the tune goes well)

Dude, I really don't want to burst your bubble, but this might not be the best way to spend 8g's.

When I really was looking for some more power out of my D17, I REALLY wanted to turbo. It seemed cheaper then a K, until I saw all of the things needed to really be relaible for a DD. Then the cost was the same as a K. Reliability was a huge factor, when I was watching people blow head gaskets, spin bearings, and have warped heads.

In the end, it came down to the fact that the money just wasn't worth it. My car was an 01, worth about 8500 at the time. Now, I don't know what year you have, but I'm guessing max, your car is worth 14. Either way, you're putting roughly 8000 into it on top of that. I've seen 01 K-swapped EM2's sell for 9000 before, in similar shape that mine was. That means a 7000 dollar loss.

If you love the car, then awesome...Do I/H/E, Suspension, Short shifter, and some motor mount bushings and you'll have a car that gets great gas mileage, and is tight around corners, shifting, and sounds great. Just my 2 cents.

It's up to you man, but just think about it.

If you're still thinking swap, here are your options (You can find these on civicforums.com, but I'll spare you the trouble of finding them all in different places).

K20a (most expensive, and rare): JDM Honda Integra Type R, 220 at the crank.
K20a2 (common, but still expensive): USDM RSX-S, 200ish at the crank. I've seen them go for around $4500
K20a3 (most common, and cheapest): USDM Civic Si (02-04), 160 at the crank. Usually around $1500
K24 (not sure on the exact engine code): TSX/CRV, again I can't remember which is the right one. These are pretty uncommon.
K24 Frank: K24 block, K20a2 head. Gets you the big displacement with the RSX head. This is expensive, and requires some modifications.

I wish I could find it, but I saw an itemized list of things need for a K-swap, and it totalled about $3000. So add that to whatever engine you choose. Cheapest option is the k20a3, which is around $4500-$5000 all said and done. People have said that it pulls pretty well, but it's hard to say that $500 is worth 40 or so more hp.

Hope that helps. That's not the end all list of what's involved with each, but it's a decent overview. If you need more info, you can find it searching around on forums.

^^ your right man..And based off your piced there it looks like the k20a2 and the k20a3 have a huge price jump for just about 40hp
confused in one thing tho maybe just a typo
you said
K20a3 (most common, and cheapest): USDM Civic Si (02-04), 160 at the crank. Usually around $1500
bu then that the same engine was about 4500-5k.

just making sure that im gettin everything right..is it 1500-or 5K? for the k20a3..

also I mean thats a lot of $$ for only 40 hp extra w/out mods..if I do a swap I would HAVE to go for the k20a2.

But I feel ya all the way about the relaible part..
But labor I think would send me over the price of a turbo..

damn dude..wtf do I do haha

K20a3 is $1500 + $3000 for swap parts = $4500

Just hang on with the turbo, you've got it right that you'll "need" a kit, fuel management, injectors, and other odds and ends. If you go and order it without some time learning more on your own, you're probabaly going to end up either dissapointed or with a blown motor.

I cannot say enough that you need to research. You've got some great basic info from this thread, now go and find every option you can and the pros and the cons. Also, the add ons you'll need to be reliable.

If you're thinkin' turbo, check this out: http://www.civicforums.com/forums/79...turbo-faq.html

You're pretty much going to want to make that thread your life for a while so you actually understand not only how a turbo works, but what is involved.
