Default ground wires

I don't have a wiring kit, I have some 4 gauge wire you'd use for a system. Is it safe to ground my engine with that? besides replacing the stock grounds with that, can I add additional grounds from the negative on my battery anywhere else?

You can run as many grounds as you want. Anything touching the body should be tied to ground anyways.
