actually the DOHC ZC is cheaper than a B16. by about 450 bucks. and the SiR only makes 20 more hp, and has roughly the same torque.

edit: not to threadjack but...i just tot to thinking, would it be possible to put a DOHC ZC head on say a D15B7 to havea DOHC D?

Short answer: No. SOHC->DOHC headswaps don't work.

Sniper: The reason I recommended a ZC is manyfold.

1) It's the cheapest EF swap that's actually an improvement.
2) It's the easiest EF swap.
3) It'll cost roughly the same as what a shop will charge to tear the engine apart and poke around.
4) It'll put out as much as (or more than) any other D swap right off the bat.
5) It's DOHC

The reason I recommend them so often is they tend to fit these situations for most EF owners who aren't looking for a 10 second car and really don't want to shell out 2 grand.

How would I identify a ZC motor? I found a D15B, SOHC, Vtec... Motor, tranny, and ECU for 850.00, but It's out of a 92 civic, and I don't know if the engine/tranny mounts are the same. Sorry, strayed... Are ZC only DOHC? Where could I find the engine numbers that are considered ZC's? I'm new to this, so the term is a bit foggy for me, but i'm trying. LOL

Thanks again for all the input on this, I really do appreciate it.

Well, ZC's are simply stamped ZC on the block as opposed to D16xx. They come in both DOHC non-VTEC and SOHC VTEC flavors, both making similar numbers. The DOHC's are easier to install (obviously). I believe the DOHC's are roughly equivalent to the EDM D16A8/A9. Other than that, they're just called ZC's...
